WOLFMOTHER Dominates Australia's ARIA AWARDS
October 30, 2006WOLFMOTHER was a big winner at the Australian Recording Industry Awards (ARIA) gala in Sydney, capturing the "Best Rock Album" and "Best Group" awards.
The band, which also scored the best breakthrough album award, marked the occasion with a performance at Sunday night's event that culminated with an onstage smash-up of their equipment, Billboard reported Monday.
During the awards ceremony the band also wowed the crowds with a blistering, white-hot rendition of the new single "Joker and the Thief", released this week on Modular Recordings.
The single includes the B sides "Joker And The Thief" remix by Loving Hand, "Vagabond" acoustic version, "Where Eagles Have Been" live at Lollapalooza and "Joker And The Thief" clip featuring the stars of "Jackass".
Steve Pav, managing director of Modular Recordings, described the band's success as "damn well-deserved."
The group also took out the coveted public voted Channel [V] "Artist of the Year" award, which was a surprise announcement on the red carpet prior to the ARIA Awards.
But 2006 does not stop there for the band. With over 800,000 copies of the self-titled album sold to date worldwide, WOLFMOTHER will head overseas for another round of international touring, playing sell-out headline shows in 2,000-to-5000 capacity venues across Europe and U.S. throughout November and December.
While they're away they'll take time out in London to perform at the televised induction of non other than LED ZEPPELIN into the U.K. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
To cap the year off, WOLFMOTHER will return home to Australian soil, treading the boards as headliners for the sold-out Falls and Southbound Festivals over New Year's Eve.
For their Aussie fans at home desperate for a WOLFMOTHER fix before then, tune in to Channel 10 on Tuesday, November 21 at 11:25 p.m. to catch an exclusive performance from "Live at the Chapel", recorded last week in Melbourne in front of a live audience.
